There’s a common misconception among people that immigrants put a strain on the country’s economy. This is completely unfounded and in fact, the opposite of reality. Immigrants actually build and strengthen the economy.

1. Increase in Output

When immigrants come to the country, they increase the size of the labor force. This increase results in higher productivity and greater output for the country. The country is then able to produce more goods and services that ultimately benefit the economy and make it stronger.

2. Growth in GDP

Since these immigrants are earning the money in the new country, they’re also going to be spending it there. Even if they send a portion of it back home, a major chunk of the money stays within the country. This creates a demand for more goods and services in the country and contributed to significant growth in the GDP.  

3. Skilled Workforce

Skilled immigrants increase the pool of skilled workforce in the country. More doctors, engineers, technicians, and other people contribute to the strengthening of the economy with their skills. These people only need a little training but a major cost of their education is already borne.

4. More Entrepreneurs

As immigrants make their way to the new country, they’re in search of ways to make money. These people are often creative in their approach and have an entrepreneurial spirit that allows them to become profitable. In turn, they have the capacity to create more jobs also.

Support the Somali Community in Ohio

Currently, 75,000 Somali refugees and immigrants reside in different parts of Central Ohio and have a strong community there. Somalis are hardworking and entrepreneurial people who have the potential to boost the American economy. With some support, they can be active and contributing members of the society.

As a non-profit organization, the Somali Community Link helps Somalis in Ohio to live a better life and become useful members of the society. The newspaper was founded to ease the rehabilitation process of Somalis and help them resettle in the US. They offer services, including Somali community resettlement services, education funding, housing needs for the Somali community, and legal advisory.
